Stay in hotels, from your favorite movies to the scariest ones located on the cliff - that's called a big adventure. And today, I've collected 15 most unusual hotels on Earth that I recommend visiting at least once.

Find an underground or even underwater hotel if you're afraid of heights. If you are a bit claustrophobic person, find the one that will show you how big the universe is. It's all here. Find yours.

#1 Beresheet Hotel Mitzpe | Ramon, Israel

The Ramon crater is the world’s largest natural crater. It’s 25 miles long, 6.2 miles wide, and 1,640 feet deep. It’s shaped like an elongated heart. The crater is located in the Negev desert, and the hotel is settled right on a cliff at the edge of the crater. The hotel contains 34 luxury suites with private pools. There is a fabulous restaurant and astonishing SPA to visit. The whole hotel has stone walls, and it is the only hotel located on the edge of the natural crater.

#2 Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village Resort | Lapland, Finland

Some people believe that Santa lives in Lapland and that the whole gifts factory is located there too. This belief results in various activities and excursions for Christmas lovers, especially the little ones. Anyways, besides the gorgeous home of Santa Claus, one of the most unique hotels also takes place in the area.

If being outdoors in freezing Arctic weather sounds like an awesome idea, you should definitely consider visiting this resort. Each room is a glass igloo made of thermal glass, which keeps the heat inside. Every igloo has luxury beds and its own private bathroom. In addition, the resort has the world’s largest smoke sauna and 4 restaurants. Two of those restaurants are located in traditional Laplander huts. They all serve a variety of Laplandic specialties, including char-grilled salmon and reindeer.

#3 Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast Resort | California, USA

This is a perfect resort for train lovers, AKA for all Sheldon Coopers from the Big Bang Theory. This resort has won the award for being Northern California’s most unique bed & breakfast. The resort consists of 19 decorated vintage railroad cabooses, and they’re all located in a park. In addition, the bed & breakfast has its own private beach. You won’t find another bed & breakfast veteran like this anywhere in the world.

#4 727 Fuselage Hotel | Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica

This absolutely fantastic hotel was made out of a vintage 1965 Boeing 727 airplane. When it was still in the air, it was used by Avianca airlines, Colombia, and South African Airways. This is a tiny hotel containing only 2 bedrooms. However, if you are lucky enough to stay in a Fuselage suite, it will give you views of the jungle to make it look like you are actually flying.

#5 Glace Ice Hotel | Quebec City, Canada

This hotel is located just a 10-minute walk from downtown Quebec City. However, if you’re planning to stay here, you will need to do so in the winter. The reason is pretty simple and awesome in all possible ways - when the weather warms up, the hotel disappears because the entire hotel is made of ice. It contains 44 rooms and suites. Around the hotel, you’ll find huge snow walls and crystal ice sculptures. Since the hotel first opened in 2001, over a million people worldwide have visited this unusual place.

#6 Escher Cliff | Switzerland

This is a wonderful hotel built right into the side of a mountain. It is a very private and peaceful place. The views are amazing! What’s best is that the only way that anybody can get into the hotel is by cable car. With no direct access by the vehicle, you can be sure that your stay will be relaxing and a quiet one.

#7 Attrap'Rêves | Allauch, France

This hotel is not like your ordinary hotel. The rooms are transparent bubbles, and each one has its own theme. In addition, the hotel is set deep in the middle of the woods, so you will have a breathtaking view of a forest and a star-filled sky at night. Best of all, it’s not uncommon for the wildlife in the area to come right up to your bubble. You don’t need to worry, though. The bubbles, AKA hotel rooms, are strong enough to keep the most dangerous wildlife out.

#8 Sala Silvermine | Sweden

This one is also a very unique hotel because it’s located in historic Sala Silvermine - one of the world’s best and most famous preserved minds. You will need to go down in the elevator 508 feet underground to get to this hotel. The hotel itself is both - rustic and elegant. People from all over the world travel to Sweden just to stay at this hotel.

#9 Giraffe Manor | Nairobi, Kenya

Among the 15 most unusual hotels globally, perhaps this one is the winner. When many people think about Africa, they seem to think of lions, tigers, elephants, rhinoceros, etc. But one animal that’s almost always forgotten is the giraffe. Therefore, the Giraffe Manor was created to give these amazing creatures some recognition. The hotel consists of 10 luxury suites where giraffes wander the ground. The highlight of the day at the hotel is lunch and dinner. Windows in the dining room are open, and the giraffes will come right in and eat from your table.

#10 Hobbit Motel | Woodlyn Park, New Zealand

If you’re a fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, this is a hotel you definitely want to visit. The hotel consists of 2 replica hobbit homes. Fortunately, the ceilings are higher than the ceilings in the movie. That’s so the taller guests can visit the hotel. If it is a relaxing stay in a 5-star hotel you’re looking for, this is not a hotel for you. The hobbits from the Lord of the Rings didn’t live the high-end life. No worries, the rooms are still very comfortable, cozy, and super clean.

#11 The Magic Mountain Hotel | Chile

This hotel looks like something right out of a fairytale. The outside of the hotel looks like a wooden cone, and it has a large waterfall cascading from the pinnacle located high in the sky. Porthole windows are peeking out from around the hotel all over the hotel. There’s also a wooden drawbridge that brings you to the hotel, and it’s entirely surrounded by an unbelievable biological preserve.

#12 Sky Lodge | Peru

The sky lodge is one of the scariest hotels on the Earth. It’s located on a cliff in Peru. Travelers sleep 400 feet in the air! The pods that you sleep in are transparent, so you have a 360-degree view of the area around the mountain. If you want to relax outside your room, there are mattresses and hammocks on the side of the mountain. If you wish to visit this hotel, well, you’ll have to climb the face of the mountain and to get down, you’ll need to take a zip wire. You do need to have a really strong stomach to stay in this hotel.

#13 Utter Inn | Sweden

If you’re taking a vacation and you just wanna get away from everything, this hotel would be perfect. It’s located in the middle of Lake Mälaren in Sweden. The hotel is very small, consisting of a cabin and a deck on a floating platform. The sleeping area is accessible by a steep ladder located close to 10 feet underwater. While lying in bed, you can watch the marine life swimming by. When you first arrive at the hotel, you’ll be taken out by boat, and once you’re there, you’ll be given an inflatable canoe, and then you’re on your own. You won’t find a more private place to stay anywhere else in the world.

#14 Free Spirit Spheres | Canada

There are plenty of hotels in the world that claim to be treehouse hotels. None of these hotels, however, can compete with Free Spirit Spheres. The hotel consists of 3 wooden capsules called spirit spheres. They are suspended by ropes high up in the trees of a private forest on Vancouver Island. If you’re planning to stay here, you might have to make your reservation well in advance. It’s because there are only 3 spheres available. Each sphere is a different size, and they all have different amenities. For example, the most expensive capsule contains a sink, refrigerator, and microwave. The only way to get to the spheres is on a suspension bridge connected to the stairs to reach the top of a tree.

#15 Dog Park Inn | Cottonwood, Idaho, USA

If you adore dogs, this is certainly the bed & breakfast for you. The hotel is an enormous beagle that is 32 feet high and 16 feet wide. The beagle’s name is Sweet Willie, and you get to sleep right inside him (if this sentence sounds gross to you, it means you have a really dark imagination 🤨). There is a double room for larger families in the beagle’s stomach, and there’s also a loft room in his muzzle. But, wait, it gets better, you can bring your dog along. The actual shape of the hotel was designed and created by the owners, who are experts with a chainsaw. Many of the furnishings and decorations inside are also made by the owner. Each room has a comfortable bed, air-conditioning, and all the major amenities you would expect to find in a typical hotel.

If my findings and recommendation seem pretty scary in all possible ways - wait up. Every hotel is somehow extraordinary, and whenever you stay, it will be somehow WOW. However, there are certain hotels that you can stay at and save some money. While unique hotels often have strict prices, others can vary between different online travel agencies. Therefore, try out the RatePunk extension when planning your next stay. It will run a quick price comparison and reveal the OTA you should book through to get the lowest price.
